With love, from Russia

After our fabulous viewing experience of HAIR last night, Blondie and I decided to head for Russian food. He was craving beef stroganoff and I was craving vodka. We hit up a Russian restaurant about 1/2 block from the theater, and had a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.

We both had a couple of martinis, and then I went for some caviar and grilled monkfish with 3 different purees (spinach, carrot, potato). Blondie had lobster bisque, beef stroganoff, and a flourless chocolate torte (okay, I ate some of it also).

The restaurant was beautiful. We went in wearing jeans, and were a little worried because everyone else was dressed up. But we decided to just have a great time, and not worry about anything else - and ended up loving our food and drinks!

We both went home stuffed to the eyeballs last night. And 4 hours later when we went to bed, I was still full.

Let the sunshine in

Famous last words from Blondie: You pick what we do today.

Me: Okay then, I will. Let's go see HAIR on Broadway!

Blondie: < dead silence >

Me: Hahahahah! This is the best plan ever!

My love of musicals - oh my undying love of musicals. I seriously feel like I missed my calling in life. I can't sing to save my life and my dancing looks like I've eloctrocuted myself, but there are so many other jobs in the theater. I could've been a set designer, a playwright, a producer, a director (I'm really good at telling people what to do), etc.

Hair RULED. From the moment the play started, I was in heaven. We had gotten half price tickets and then the theater was half-full so they let us move way up rows. Then the actors and actresses were in the theater among the rows for about half the time of the play.

There was full frontal nudity. And everyone was in killer shape that was in the play, so it was HOT full frontal nudity.

For those who watch American Idol (not me) apparently a big name guy from AI was in it also (Ace Young) - and yes, you could see his penis. It was a little awkward when as the play was ending and they were inviting everyone on stage to dance with them, he came up to our row. And all I could think was "I just saw you totally naked about an hour ago".

Apparently I'm a 12 year old boy sometimes.

Scotch, scotch, scotch... down my throat

Too much beer leads to a decision that lands you in Williamsburg, Bklyn. A beautiful wonderful decision that puts you on top of a building overlooking Manhattan, wondering how in the world you got so lucky to not only get a totally hot husband who loves cats, but also is willing to move with you to any fabulous city you want to live in. Loving life right now. Hope this feeling lasts!

The Arch

A lot of movies about NYC show the same shots - if there is any kind of running in a movie, it takes place in Central Park around the reservoir. There is also usually shots from Greenwich Village/brownstones, maybe an ice skating rink, but almost always, there is the arch (that IS indeed the Empire State Bldg in the background).

We headed down to the NYU area so I could finally see this arch in person. I'm glad Blondie came with, because I know this wasn't top on his list of things to see.

The arch was gorgeous. The park (Washington Square) not so much. It was being repaired and a lot of the areas were roped off and dug up. I'm sure once they get it fixed, it will be a beautiful space.

It was a HOT day yesterday. I had to talk myself out of getting in the fountain.

Are my KY roots coming through?

Everyone from KY can bowl, right?

We had a work offsite at Chelsea Piers bowling alley this past week. I managed to convince my work group that I was the greatest bowler alive. Everyone was certain I was going to come in and knock down strike after strike after strike. I completely lied.

What I forget is that even though we bowl everytime Blondie and I go back to KY, it's usually a good idea only after about 15 beers to begin with. As Slick says - "it's pretty easy to knock down 10 pins when you are seeing 20".

Wherever you go, there you are

Blondie and I made big plans yesterday - we had worked out our whole day. Around noontime we headed out to put our plans in motion - headed towards the subway - and got *completely* blind-sided. By the best thing ever.

A 15 BLOCK FOOD FESTIVAL ONLY 2 AVENUES FROM OUR HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!

OMG. Heaven. Heaven everywhere you looked. We took 1 look at each other, and in unison said "Screw Washington Square Park!" (which was part of our original plan).

We dived right in, and had a blast! Blondie got a hat to protect his burnt head from more sun (oh yes, it was beautiful yesterday also!), and we both got snazzy new Hells Kitchen 10036 (represent!) t-shirts.

The food festival was officially named "9th Avenue International Food Festival" and it's exactly what it sounds like. Almost every restaurant from 42nd to 57th on 9th Ave set up booths in front of their shops, and were serving food and booze.

It was SO cheap. I've never been to a cheaper food festival in my life. I'm dead serious. Beers (I'm talking Stella and Guiness) - $3. Margaritas - $3. Sangria - $3. Chocolate covered strawberries - $4. Funnel Cake - $4. HUGE ASS SAUSAGE with peppers and onions - $5. Grilled octopus - $5. Indian food, seafood, soul food, greek food, brazilian food, mexican, carnival food... You name it, it was there.

Towards the end of the day, Blondie and I managed to snag a couple of seats in front of a new bar that we've never tried, and drank cheap ass beers and people watched the afternoon away.

Seriously - it was one of the most awesome days we've had. And it was so unplanned. I think that's what makes it better!

We love you Hells Kitchen and 9th Ave International Food Festival!

HAIL TO THE CHIEF!

OMG peeps. Seriously. How awesome is this? PRESIDENT OBAMA WAVED AT ME TODAY!!!!

Okay, slight exaggeration. President Obama waved at the group of people I was standing with, and not specifically at me, but it sounds so much better the other way!

A notification came out today from my work that they blocked down the street that runs right by my office so that the presidential motorcade could come through this afternoon. I made plans to head down to watch it, but forgot.

1+ hour after it was supposed to come through, a friend of mine suggested a walk to help with an errand - I was in. Which was an awesome thing.

Because the motorcade was late! We got to watch it come through, and since I was standing next to a nutjob who thought Obama was the 2nd coming of Christ (*not* my friend) and who made so much noise you probably could've heard hear from my office itself, we got waved at!!!

SO MUCH EXCITEMENT!

Also, I realize how I'll never truly be a New Yorker b/c I'll never get over the thrill of a day like today.

The Noob Took a Break

The last 2 weeks have been chock-full of visitors, and Blondie's birthday is this week, so this past weekend, we decided to take it very easy.

This was an easy decision, since we were out until 2 am on Saturday morning. And the weather was cruddy when we woke up finally on Saturday.

Sunday we hit up our local bar for drunken lunch, and um, a 4 hour nap later, I felt much better.

Check back up this week - I'll be posting about Blondie's birthday!

Root, root, root for the home team!

Or the White Sox, IDK, whatevs

Shhhh... confession time. Blondie hates the Yankees. But when the K's came to visit, they brought us a gift - and that was tickets to see the Yankees battle it out against the White Sox! And guess what? Blondie kind of liked the game. Simply because New York fans have got to be some of the most vicious fans in the world - they don't like what you did? You get boo'ed. It doesn't matter if you had hit 5 homeruns in a row, and then had a pop out to left center. That pop out? Gets you a police escort to your car after the game.

A quick 15 min stroll through Times Square (prior to the bomb scare of course) brought us to our train line, and we happened to get the express train, so 15 mins after that, we had arrived in the Bronx.

The stadium was gorgeous - it's brand new this year, and is totally worth every penny they spent on it.

The players taking the field - I think I got a picture of Derek Jeter at bat. But to be honest, I was about 5 beers in at this point, and it could very well be a White Sox player I snapped.

The White Sox won! Another reason to make Blondie happy!

Here we are, enjoying a GORGEOUS NYC day.

Our train back to the hood - delayed, seriously delayed. All we could think is that it was due to the bomb scare. We got out on the UWS, and decided to stroll back and enjoy a thorougly beautiful evening.

Headed through UWS

Lincoln Center
